It’s so good, brain 2. It’s better than the first season, which was, let’s remember, very successful. It’s a clever mix of crime thriller, psychological thriller, and so-called classic medical series.

It’s sprinkled with David Fincher’s twisted stuff with a hint of Flight over a cuckoo’s nest and various whiffs of levity, which allow the series to breathe and lower its anxiety levels.
On the menu of the first five episodes, which will appear on Tou.TV’s Extra on Thursday: cut letters that form a threatening anagram, a dark web maniac who manipulates an unstable man, young women kidnapped and murdered, as well as cases heavy. in the office of psychiatrist Henri Lacombe (François Papineau).
Now, before we dissect the plot, a great reminder is in order. because the continuation of Brain shows the tip of his nose three years after the premiere of the first chapter, in the summer of 2019. The pandemic and the withdrawal of the main actor Claude Legault, who suffered from professional exhaustion, delayed the start of this dramatic television series signed by Richard blaimert (Hubert and Fanny, New address) and co-directed by Guy Édoin and Catherine Therrien.
For those whose TV memory fades after two days (goodnight!), here’s the quick recap of part one of Brain. So psychologist Anne Beaulieu (Évelyne de la Chenelière), wife of renowned psychiatrist Henri Lacombe (Claude Legault), mysteriously disappears and the investigation concludes that there was a shooting. And who had shot Anne? Her friend, cuckolded wife, Sophie Bérubé-Lacroix (Jacynthe René). It is that Anne slept with Sophie’s husband, the minister Richard Lacroix (Gabriel Sabourin), an adulterer who destroyed the life of Henri and his two adult children, William (Henri Picard) and Marine (Marianne Verville).
brain 2 is reset approximately six months after these tragic events. The transition between Claude Legault and François Papineau, who replaces him in the title role, occurs naturally, without interruption.
Returning from a long healing journey in Japan, Henri Lacombe (François Papineau) takes up a) his destiny in hand and b) his hospital practice.
But quickly, his charged past catches up with him. Two young women are kidnapped and later murdered, and police officer Simone Vallier (Christine Beaulieu) arrests someone in D.r Lacombe.
At the same time, the trial of alleged murderer Sophie Bérubé-Lacroix (Jacynthe René) is orchestrated, bringing back painful memories for the Lacombe family. Especially since William (Henri Picard) is now dating the daughter (Marguerite Bouchard) of Sophie (Jacynthe René), who killed her own mother (Évelyne de la Chenelière). You’re still here ? Cool.
Also, brain 2 places a former D patient at the center of the storyr Lacombe, played by the talented Alexis Martin. You remember ? His name was Jules Côté and he had been forcibly interned for five months. It seems that this lonely, alcoholic and disturbed man attracts trouble despite himself.
Micheline Lanctôt plays Jules’s mother, who no longer buys the lies of this sick son who has let her down for so long. This complex and gangrenous mother-son relationship gives rise to very intense scenes.
Another important reminder before you start watching brain 2 : Ludivine Reding and Antoine Desrochers played the incestuous twins Laure and Toby in the first season. On a softer note, Ming Lee’s pussy is back as well.
The first episode of brain 2 roll fast and reframe the story quickly. I love Kanuk researcher Simone Vallier and her partner Danno Boulianne (Olivier Gervais-Courchesne), who make an uneven but highly effective duo. Their sibling-like snacks soften the darkest moments of Brain. They are perfect.
Among the new characters, there is a young father (excellent Frédéric Millaire-Zouvi) who suffers a huge post-traumatic shock linked to his unconventional and confidential work. A bodyguard (Éric Robidoux) is also embedded in the portrait and Frédéric Pierre gets into the skin of the psychiatrist consulted by Henri Lacombe.
The last five episodes of brain 2 will land on Extra de Tou.TV on Thursday, June 30. Those who do not subscribe to this paid service will see brain 2 on Radio-Canada in September, Tuesdays at 9 pm the telenovela 5me Range moves on Mondays at 8:00 p.m. to the old scheduleanother story.
What black sequence, Brain it takes place in the middle of winter, a season that, however, lasts six months and is rarely shown on Quebec television. It’s refreshing (lol) to see those sequences of snow storms and characters emitting condensation clouds when they talk outside. Especially when the Humidex is about to explode and our air conditioners are coughing like they’ve caught COVID-19.
