If you see small white or yellow bumps on the cheeks, nose, around the eyes, or anywhere else on the body, it is milia. Although they are commonly seen in infants, they can also affect adolescents and adults. Mainly attributed to the accumulation of sebum on the skin, this cosmetic problem can also be a sign of an underlying medical problem. The content of milium pimples is not fluid like that of an acne pimple or pustule. In fact, they are small cysts. The small white mass inside is very hard, almost like a grain of sand. It is formed by a plug of dead keratinized (hardened) cells that have adhered just below the surface of the epidermis. Since these pimples form under a thin layer of skin and not in a pore (like acne pimples), there is no opening in the skin layer to get the plug out. Never try to pop the cysts as this can cause scarring! There are other ways to treat them naturally without damaging the dermis. These are some of the most effective:
- Apple cider vinegar
- Castor oil
- tea tree oil
- sugar scrub
- coconut oil
- Lemon juice
- honey mask
- Water of roses
Apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon of water
- cotton balls
Add one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to one tablespoon of water. Mix well and dip a cotton ball in it. Apply all over the affected area and wash off after 30 minutes. Repeat daily for a few weeks.
Castor oil to get rid of milia
- ½ teaspoon cold-pressed castor oil
Clean the affected area with a mild cleanser. Take half a teaspoon of cold pressed castor oil and apply it on the milia pimples. Leave on for 30-60 minutes before rinsing off with water. Carry out the procedure once a day.
tea tree oil
- 6 drops of tea tree oil
- 6 drops of coconut oil
Mix six drops of tea tree oil and six drops of coconut oil. Massage the mixture into the previously cleansed areas. Wait about 30 minutes before washing. Use 1-2 times a day for faster results.
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ½ lemon
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
Combine two tablespoons of sugar and the juice of half a lemon and a teaspoon of coconut oil. Use this preparation 3 to 4 times a week to gently rub the affected skin. Leave on for about 20 minutes, then rinse.
Coconut oil to remove milium pimples
- cold pressed coconut oil
Take some cold pressed coconut oil in your palms and apply it on the affected skin. Let it sit for about 30 to 60 minutes. Rinse with water and a mild cleanser. Repeat the procedure once a day for one to two weeks.
- ½ lemon
- A pinch of salt (optional)
Cut a lemon in half and rub one half directly on the problem area. You can also extract the juice from half a lemon, add a pinch of salt to it, and apply this mixture to the milia-prone areas of your skin. Leave on for 30 to 40 minutes and rinse. Do the mask once a day.
Spread an even layer of toothpaste on the affected skin. Wait overnight before rinsing with cold water. You have to do this three times a week.
- ½ tablespoon of manuka honey
Take half a tablespoon of manuka honey on your fingers. Apply an even layer to affected areas. Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes before washing it off. How often to do it: Once a day for a few weeks.
Rose water to get rid of milia seeds
- 1 tablespoon sandalwood powder
- water of roses
To a tablespoon of sandalwood powder, add enough rosewater to make a thick paste. Apply this mixture evenly on the affected skin. Leave it on for about 30 minutes once a day for about 2 weeks to see results. Rinse with cold water.
