Grandparents Vaping for the First Time Delight Internet: ‘Light Headed’

A man named Luca persuaded his grandparents to try vaping for the first time, but after trying it they asked him if he had given them drugs as they felt “lightheaded”.

A video shared on TikTok by the grandson, under the username Lucapilati_, shows him handing his grandparents a vape and the couple blowing smoke, looking satisfied.

The clip came with a caption that says: “Getting my grandparents to try a vape for the first time… they asked if it was drugs after because they got lightheaded.”

The British National Health Service (NHS) says that vapes and e-cigarettes are “far less harmful than cigarettes”, and proposes them as a way to cut back on cigarettes for good.

But Johns Hopkins Medicine says that vaping can be just as bad if not worse. Because nicotine is the primary agent in both regular cigarettes and e-cigarettes, both products are toxic and addictive.

Moreover, many e-cigarette users get even more nicotine than they would from a combustible tobacco product, it said, pointing out that users can buy extra-strength cartridges, with a higher concentration of nicotine, or increase the e-cigarette’s voltage to get a greater hit of the substance.

In the US, vaping is becoming a bigger problem among children and young adults. The annual YouGov youth survey for Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) shows current vaping among children aged between 11 and 17 is up from 4 percent in 2020 to 7 percent in 2022.

Their data also shows that disposable e-cigarettes are now the most used product among current vapers, up more than 7-fold from 7 percent in 2020 and 8 percent in 2021 to 52 percent in 2022.

The video, first shared on the platform on Monday, has been viewed over 562,800 times and received over 51,000 likes.
