A video of a golden retriever named Sunday has delighted users on TikTok after she appeared to have stolen a left-out yogurt.
In the video, which has been viewed over 120,000 times, Sunday can be seen looking at the camera in a guilty fashion, with what appears to be yogurt around her mouth.
One user commented, “Objection. Hearsay”, in a reference to the phrase made famous by lawyer Camille Vasquez during the defamation trial involving Amber Heard and Johnny Depp.
With over 200,000 followers on TikTok, in other videos, Sunday can be seen rolling around in the mud, taking naps, playing in the pool, and just generally being a golden retriever.
One user commented: “My doggies loved yoghurt ITS SO GOOD FOR THEM.” However some experts debate this due to the potential difficulty some dogs may have digesting the lactose.
According to the American Kennel Club, “[y]ogurt is high in calcium and protein. It also can act as a probiotic, which can be good for the digestive system. If you feed your dog yogurt, it should be plain and free of any added sweeteners, both natural and artificial. Added sugars are not healthy for dogs or humans, and some artificial sweeteners, such as xylitol, are toxic for dogs.
Additionally, you should also look for yogurt that has lots of live cultures, such as plain, Greek-style yogurt. This yogurt is better because it has lower levels of lactose than regular yogurt.”
While yogurt is not toxic for dogs, like chocolate and macadamia nuts, they might struggle digesting it. The AKC said that “[d]ogs’ bodies are not designed to digest lactose after puppyhood, and, therefore, a food high in lactose can cause gas, diarrhea, and vomiting. If your dog displays any of these reactions, be sure to check in with your veterinarian. As with all treats, feed your dog a small amount and see how they react.”
Sunday the golden retriever received almost unanimous support in the comments, with one user exclaiming: “It was me! Spare him.” Another user commented: “It was the cat.” Sunny Bell312 wrote: “Trying to look innocent when the evidence is on her bottom lip. Beautiful dog.”
Both users Jilly and Rob Beria found Sunday innocent of her crimes, “Innocent until proven guilty!! And if I was on the jury, I’d vote innocent”, while Rob Beria commented, “You have been found not guilty by a court of your doggo peers. you’re free to chase the squirrels.”
